Something that I have always been Intrigued by, and more so after taking my Professional Stock, equities and futures course is the perception, or should i say the idea that we “made money” or “lost money” and unless we work for the Federal Reserve, we didn’t make or lose money. Money isn’t lost or made it is only transferred from one perception to another. Art, and the marketing of of the things hold valuable, technology, fashion, sports, brands, television etc. portray the illusion that they are necessities and the more real they illusion becomes, the more we desperately want it.
There are 6-8 fundamental needs that everyone has in common depending who you ask, and all behavior is simply an attempt to meet those six needs. How we go about acquiring them (in my opinion) is what makes us all so different.
1) The urge to attain the highest level of survival as a person, for the longest amount of time, this can be depicted in my opinion, if not thru health, fitness and appearance Thru any of the following; cars, clothing, shoes, money, hair, makeup, nails, food etc.
2) Sexual Activity, and i personally believe this one is the strongest and the basis of why we fundamentally do most things, To attract the best possible mate and keep them.
3) The urge to be in a group sharing common interest, ideologies is almost tribal. This can be depicted almost everywhere; The Government, states, cities, towns, religions, sports teams etc. and the emotional threshold they hold in us individually and as a culture, can cause many problems.
4) The urge to provide or contribute, be of service to your fellow group leaders, do something nice for your family or loved one, You get the Point!
5) Human connection, Love and companionship.
6) Connection to a higher power.
Maslow wanted to understand what motivates people. He believed that people possess a set of motivation systems unrelated to rewards or conscious desires.
The original (Maslow) hierarchy of needs five-stage model includes:
1. Biological and Physiological needs – air, food, drink, shelter, warmth, sex, sleep.
2. Safety needs – protection from elements, security, order, law, stability, freedom from fear.
3. Love and belongingness needs – friendship, intimacy, affection and love, – from work group, family, friends, romantic relationships.
4. Esteem needs – achievement, mastery, independence, status, dominance, prestige, self-respect, respect from others.
5. Self-Actualization needs – realizing personal potential, self-fulfillment, seeking personal growth and peak experiences.
How we go about acquiring those things, in my opinion (Ruben Dante), is what makes us all different.
